Common symptoms of migraines and possible treatments
Migraines typically cause a severe throbbing headache, often on one side of the head. They can be accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound, and visual disturbances. These episodes are generally referred to as a “migraine attack,” and can last anywhere from a few hours to several days. This long duration can significantly impact a person’s daily life and functioning, making it difficult to carry out everyday tasks, and migraine attacks can come again, sometimes frequently.

There is a range of options to help people manage their migraines and get some relief.
If you are dealing with a mild migraine, you might want to try and reach for the over-the-counter pain relievers like paracetamol or ibuprofen. However, if your migraine is more persistent, your doctor might prescribe something stronger such as the triptans, which are specifically designed to target migraines in the early stages of an attack. In cases where your migraines are accompanied by nausea or vomiting, anti-nausea medications can be very helpful to make you feel more comfortable.
For people with chronic migraines, i.e. having migraines on at least 15 days a month, other types of medication might be suggested, and these may even include Plant-based medicine for instance.
