NHS Right to Choose GP Referrals
The NHS Right to Choose lets patients in England select where they receive non-emergency treatment when referred by their GP. Patients can choose from various hospitals or clinics, including private providers like Medisonal, at no extra cost.
If you or your child are referred by a GP for specialist treatment—such as an ADHD or autism assessment—you have the legal right to select your preferred provider for care, provided you are a registered NHS patient in England.
This choice aims to improve patient satisfaction and reduce waiting times.
At Medisonal, we understand how important it is to get the right support quickly and clearly. Below is a simple guide to what you can expect from us when you are referred through the NHS Right to Choose pathway for an ADHD or mental health assessment.

ADHD Diagnosis & Support: What Happens Next
Starting Medication
✔️ We’ll book your first medication appointment within 1 week of your diagnosis.
✔️ You’ll have regular check-ins every 2 to 4 weeks to monitor how you’re doing and adjust your treatment if needed.
Ongoing Medication Management
✔️ Once your medication is stable for 3 months, your care will be handed over to your GP through a Shared Care Agreement.
(This means your GP will help manage your medication going forward, with our continued support.)
